2.Natural Health Rules;
To follow the rules of Natural Health remember the
following acronym, DR, W. SAFE.
The D is for Diet, You should be eating a good diet of mostly
live whole foods, fresh fruits,vegetables, and whole grains.
Fish, poultry and small amounts of meat could balance out a diet
that is insufficient in certain areas because of likes or dislikes.
A good diet is balanced, and has enough calories to keep you
healthy. A good diet does not center around one specific food.
Special diets like Grapefruit diets etc will indeed make you lose
weight, but it won't make you healthy.
R is for rest. Most people need 8-10 hours sleep per night,
some can survive on less. The important thing is to get enough
so
you are not tired. You need rest to allow the body to recuperate.
During rest time is when your body makes "repairs" to
damage done
by stress and work. There is nothing wrong with taking a nap during
the day in addition to your nights sleep.
W. is for water. You need to get 8-10 glasses of water per
day. If you are overweight you need more. See the article about
the
importance of water in the Vol 1, issue 2 of this newsletter.
Water
is extremely important since your body is approximately 80% water
and the brain has even more water. Water is needed for nearly
every
bodily function. It would be physically impossible to drink too
much
It is very important to get enough. MOST People do not get enough
water.
By the way soft drinks and coffee don't count. They contain
caffiene which is a diuretic which actually causes the body to
lose
water.
S. is for Sunlight. You need to have an amount of sunlight
each day. It doesn't need a lot, but you need some. About 30 minutes
per day should be sufficient for most folks. This could even be
divided into 3 or four sessions. You want to get sunlight not
a
SUNBURN.
A. Is for Attitude. You need to maintain a positive attitude.
There are many instances of mind over matter, we have all heard
them
and many of us have experienced them. A good positive attitude
can
go along way toward keeping you healthy. If you can't maintain
a
good attitude it may help to look at someone who is worse off
than you
and be glad you are not them. Remember the old saying that "I
complained because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no
feet.".
F. is for Fresh Air. This can be a real problem in Cities like
LA or NYC. Fresh Air is no longer a common commodity. Too bad
we
can't bottle the air here in South Georgia and send it to those
folks. What
the residents of the highly polluted areas can do is take a drive
in the
country once or twice a week. At least once or twice a month to
give your
lungs a rest. Also stop smoking or don't start. Try to frequent
places
that have lots of plant life. Plants use the C02 and produce Oxygen,
it will make you breathe better, and helps your lungs.
E. is for exercise. Get plenty of exercise, but don't overdo
it. You may not end up looking like Arnold, but you will look
and feel
healthier. Exercise has been shown to improve not only physical
but
also mental, and emotional well being. You don't have to run 10
miles
a day, or ride your bike 20 miles. Just do something each day
that moves
the body. Get off the couch in front of the TV and go do some
gardening,
or walk the dog, anything that gets you moving, especially if
it causes
you to break a sweat if possible. Even invalids and nursing home
residents have shown improvement in muscle tone and overall health
after starting a regular exercise plan.

3 Worldwide Natural Health and Fitness Association.
The Worldwide Natural Health and Fitness Association was

4. Homeopathy; Does it work or is it quackery?
One of the many electronic mailing lists that I am on is
one that specializes in Homeopathy. The people on this list are
extremely articulate, well educated, intelligent folks. They are
easily as dedicated to health and healing as any MD that I have
ever met. In fact many of them are MD's. MD's that graduated from
an allopathic medical school are actually practicing homeopathic
medicine right here in the USA.
Does the fact that allopathic medical doctors are promoting
homeopathy make it right? Of course not. But it does make you
wonder,
why would these medical doctors want to desert "regular"
medicine
in support of a modality that is not what most people think of
as
medicine.
What exactly is Homeopathy and how does it work? Homeopathy
is a system of relieving symptoms of disease based on the theory
that
"likes cure likes". The idea is that a substance that
would cause a
certain symptom in a healthy person would be used to "cure"
that symptom
in an ill person. Homeopathy does not rely on only the physical
symptoms
but on the mental state of the patient as well, making it virtually
impossible to do a true double blind study on the remedies.
Homeopathy practioners use what they call "provings"
to determine
whether or not the remedies work. These provings are probably
actually
at least as scientifc as the double blind studies. The "scientists"
of
today often claim that the remedies break the "laws of physics".
The
reasoning is that often the dilutions of the original remedy is
carried
out to such an extreme that according to these scientists there
is nothing
left of the original ingredient. While the dilution may be great
enough to
cause doubt, there is no doubt that numerous people who could
not be
"cured" by modern medicine, have found remedies in homeopathic
medicine.
The experienced Homeopathic practioner has learned NOT to rely
on what
"science" calls LAWS and to instead rely on what actually
happens, whether
or not they can determine WHY. Kind of like Colombus when the
greatest
"scientific" minds of the day said "The Earth is
FLAT" and Columbus
and his crew set out on a journey that was sure to end in tragedy
only
to "prove" the truth, which was unscientific.
What has happened time after time when the Homeopathic
remedies were administered by actual homeopaths, in accordance
with
the homeopathic teachings, the remedy is effective. Homepathic
remedies
given by non practioners are not a valid test. To decide on the
remedy
to use for a particular ailment the practioner must be aware of
the
Vital Force of the patient, and must take into consideration many
things
other than just the "disease". Allopathic medicine treats
the disease
Naturopathic medicine, including homeopathic medicine, treats
the person.
Personally I have only used a Homeopathic remedy one time and
it
worked quite well, I would not be afraid to use it or other homeopathic
remedies in the future. I have known several folks that believe
that
homeopathic medicine is the only "real" medicine and
that is the
allopathic medical community that is totally unscientific. Where
the
major difference seems to be is that in allopathic medicine the
sypmtom is
treated. If a person has a headache, you take aspirin,Tylenol,
Advil or
whatever The headache goes away, but it comes back because all
you've really done is cover up the sypmtom. Where a homeopath
will look at the entire person and give a"medicine"
that should get
arid if the symptom and hopefully the cause
As in allopathic medicine the remedy is only as good as the
practitoner, a good homeopath probably has as many or even more
successfully treated patients as any allopath.
Does this mean you should drop your Medical Doctor and run out
to find a competent homeopath? That is up to you, but it doesn't
sound
practical to me. First there are not near enough Homeopathic practioners
nor Naturopaths in the US to handle everyone. I understand that
there
will soon be far more "allopathic medical doctors" then
are actually
needed. There are many "enlightened" allopaths, that
have come to see
the value of Natural Medicine including Homeopathy. If you wish
you can
seek them out. If you are sick or hurt, go to your doctor be he/she,
MD, DO. ND, DC, allopathic medicine has a very good record with
trauma
cases, car accidents, broken bones etc. The Naturopathic community
has
a better track record of keeping people healthy and the alleviation
of
chronic diseases such as cancer.
One other thing to be careful about, numerous companies are now
packaging what they call homeopathic remedies for sale to the
general public.
Virtually any Homeopathic prctioner will tell you that these are
not to be
confused with traditional homeopathy. These remedies are to take
care
of certain symptoms, but they can not take into account the "constitution"
of
the patient, and are therefore not as effective. The one thing
that is probably
a littll better about these remedies is that they are almost always
completely
safe, so if you don't relieve the symptioms, you at least have
not added to the
poisoning of the body, as you do with many pharaceuticals.
